Just Finished: Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered (PS4)

Another direct sequel to a game I played last year. Like the first game I also got this for free through PS Plus. Unlike the first game this does not include multiplayer. I guess Activision realizes how hard and confusing it is to have so many COD games running online concurrently. The original Modern Warfare is still the high point of the series for me but you can tell they did try their best to top it and escalate the stakes with this campaign. Taking another look it is eye opening to see the amount of risky choices they made such as having you participate in a terrorist attack (No Russian) and making a US General the main villain and having you kill US foot soldiers as enemies. At 17 missions the campaign is surprisingly meaty, even if the levels are straightforward and don't take that long to clear. Gameplay still boils down to point the gun at the enemy and shoot. A lot of thrilling set pieces but none of it really sticks with you. Having strong characterization for Capatain Price and to a lower extent Soap does keep you somewhat engaged. The graphics are nice but my eyes don't notice much of an improvement over the original game I played back in 2009. I had fun. It was  a straightforward, easily digestible experience to play in short bursts. Now I await the MW3 remastered, and await for it too to be offered for free over PS Plus.
