well first of all, nintendo being hit or miss while PS is consistant.

first of all, its a hybrid, meaning its still somewhat of a handheld, and in that market nintendo has NEVER failed. the GBA sold the least... but it also only had a very short 3 years probably becasue the development took so long and the psp/DS took off like a rocket in its 4th year. the GBA also managed to basically wipe the enitre market of any competitor that cropped up becasue the GB was antiquated hardware at that point.

and sony isn't really consistant either. with the PS3, they made HUGE blunders that they only managed to recover from by mid/late life cycle VS the 360. and then there is the vita, textbook example of how NOT to support a console, but i digress.

at any rate, the funny thing is whenever they actually TRIED to be more considerate to third parties, they failed. spectacularly. on the hardware front. the GC was almost on parity with the xbox in most areas and blew the ps2 out of the water yet it failed despite its great third party and first party lineup. the wii U tried to chase both power and casuals and bombed SPECTACULARLY.

whatever you think, people buy nintendo consoles for nintendo games first, and that is never going to change.
