I suppose I can go a little deeper on this as well.

Of the more recent films (and by recent, I mean Phantom Menace onward). Of the mainline Star Wars films post-The Return of the Jedi, I found The Last Jedi to be the only decent one. I also find it funny how youtube Star Wars fans melt down when I post this opinion. They go ballistic over the fact that Laura Dern has pink hair, and believe it's the result of a conspiracy orchestrated by Rian Johnson with some woman in Disney (probably targeting her because she's a woman), and backed by the SJW agenda, the gay agenda, and the soy industry - yes, homosexuals and a variety of East-Asian bean backed a conspiracy to ruin Star Wars, apparently =D

But any way. I'm no fan of Star Wars as a franchise, or blockbusters as an industry, but The Last Jedi is one of the better blockbusters since 2000.

Although, as I said, my preference goes for the original Star Wars and Rogue One. Those are the only two films I can say I like a lot in the whole franchise. I did like the 1990s PC games, though; I thought Tie Fighter and X-Wing vs Tie Fighter were both great games (although, probably terrible now).

I know I'm going to be stoned for this, but I agree with you on The Last Jedi being good or even great (better than The Force Awakens for sure, although I don't how it compares to The Rise of Skywalker, because I haven't had the chance to watch that one yet). To sum it up, the whole movie is a metaphor, and a very well constructed one, with all the elements reinforcing one another, and reinforcing the whole idea, which is that old things have to die so that new ones are born. They made an extremely conservative movie in The Force Awakens (almost a remake or a mix, if you ask me) and then they crafted The Last Jedi with this strong message of breaking with the past, and even going as far as to laugh at themselves (and at lots of other blockbusters while they were at it), thanks to the idea of...

Spoiler!

...making the whole quest of the hero useless. That was a brilliant move in my book, because on one hand, they gave people what (theoretically) people were looking for in a film of this kind, which is a heroic adventure filled with lots of moments of action and tension. But on the other hand, that same quest was nothing but a perfect parody of what these kinds of movies are, because in the end it wasn't the heroes who saved the day with their extremely risky, far-fetched and nonsensical adventure; the one who saved the day was that woman who actually knew what she was doing and sticked to it no matter what, because her plan was actually the most efficient way to be successful in the situation they were with the means they had. I understand how people can dislike that, but it's way much better than stuff like "Hey! We've created an impenetrable space bunker but, uh, well, there's a tiny spot in it that your brave hero can use to totally destroy it! =D".

Also, this whole situation (the hated lady silently carrying the weight of the situation, while the heroes were just fooling around) is one of the biggest contributors to the metaphor I mentioned before that this movie is, because the quests of the heroes were one of the most rooted traditions in this saga and this movie picked them up, threw them on the ground and stomped on them.

So for a blockbuster of this time and age (!), The Last Jedi was groundbreaking, and it's a shame that fans and people in general hated it so much, because it would've been quite interesting to see what could've followed. This is one of the most carefully thought (and risky) blockbusters that has been made in years, and all it got was hate. I think a "shaking my head" emoji fits very well here.

Anyway, this is just my opinion (one based on something I watched years ago), and of course I know that The Last Jedi has flaws too - it's not a perfect movie by any means, and Disney introducing its own identity in a saga where it doesn't fit much doesn't precisely help. But in any case, The Last Jedi is not as bad as people make it look - not even close.

[Edit] I actually want to (re)watch all the movies as soon as I have the chance to do it, so I'll probably have a better opinion on this when that happens.
