Sucker Punch is better than one might think. But you need to watch several times to fully understand what is going on on all the different levels, only then can you truly get the movie and understand why it's much better than expected.

Absolutely!
It's really a live-action anime. It took all the action and absurdity from the original and ran (raced?) with it. And it is glorious!

The second one was pretty weak, but that's due to the studio wanting another one in under just a year, writing and filming included. The fact that they managed to even get a plot together and film it all under that time constraint is laudable, but the movie itself is pretty bad from this rushing. The following ones were much better.
