In the last 5 ish years, I have felt disappointed by E3 directs, but extremely impressed by September and January/February directs. I think the reason for this is because Nintendo is focusing on having similar amounts of quality announcements throughout the year rather than heavy loading the E3 one and having pitiful announcements the rest of the year.
