I can easily see a lot of PS5 and Xbox Series X owners buying right now so they can play old games with better resolution, frame rate and loading times. The people who upgraded to the PS4 Pro or Xbox One X will be the type who'll do that and even people who didn't upgrade but bought them first will care about having better performance but many won't wanna spend a good chunk of money for a good PC to get great performance so will understandably prefer to spend far less to get just good performance since it's still good. For future games stuff like RE8 is only a month away so buying in advance for future games makes sense especially considering the stock situation. If someone wants to play RE8 on a PS5 or Series X may as well buy one as soon as you can since you might not be able to get one the week that comes out. Also thanks to stuff like smartphones many consumers have gotten accustomed to wanting the latest and greatest right away.
For the experience thing it'll vary by person and game but for me playing a fast paced game like a platformer or first person shooter at 1440p 144fps is a very different experience than playing at at 720p 30fps. The latter is outright unplayable for me now for games like that so I think it's fair to consider the leap in resolution and especially fps to be a new experience. The massively improved loading times the new consoles bring also adds to that.
