Which post-NES console introduced the best new Nintendo franchises?

I'd rather watch paint dry than play Animal Crossing honestly, it looks like about the most boring series ever made.

It's not my favorite Nintendo IP, but neither is Pokemon either, but I wouldn't deny it's an incredibly important IP. 

I'd take a F-Zero or Advance Wars over a new Pokemon or Animal Crossing, but I can't with a straight face say those IP are more important than a Animal Crossing or Pokemon.
