I was just talking with a friend about this yesterday. While it hasn't held up the way the Gamecube has, the N64 was just something to experience at the time of release. 

Exactly, more so than any other generation it felt like this old leap into the unknown, into this whole new world of possibilities and wonder. Going from 2D to 3D was a true paradigm shift and it was the N64's classics that I feel best epitomise this revolution.
