Well it is clear they still wanted to announce some bombshells. Just a reminder they did something similar with AC NH reveal when it finally released more than a year later after said reveal, it isn't an unprecedent event. Though, you could argue Splatoon 3 is a special case in the way that it is a game who survives mostly on it's online(community) aspects. Knowing the last major event was a year ago now. It is clear they prolly wanted to make sure the news about the release of a new game could retain said audience instead of letting it dwindle by stating absolutely nothing for a whole other year. We know Pokémon news are coming next week. The Zelda segment only really stated that they were gonna show us news later, possibly for the 35th Anniversary Direct, which does not invalidate a Holiday release in the slighest. Why some are thinking that is beyond me ... Gotta admit you're last statement would've been a fever dream if you told this to anyone few years back, I'm actually glad that it is now a possibility for Second and Third party to carry the Switch momentum for some time. It also means Nintendo studios have less pressure on their shoulders to churn out rushed content and actually can take their time to do what they wanna realize. (Zelda being probably the best example in this case) |
The way they phrased the lack of teaser for Zelda screams non-2021 release imo. They will make a Zelda direct maybe on second half and then show us when they play to release BOTW 2, just like 3D World announcement was in September my guts are telling me BOTW 2 is gonna be released in Q2 or Q3 2022
