I assume this means that the holiday season in Japan has come to a close, so there aren't any remaining good days that fall into the week ending January 17th.

Which in turn means that Sony has provided all the evidence needed to conclude that a PS5 launch in February would have been smarter. Missing the holiday season isn't bad when you are unable, or rather unwilling, to take advantage of it. The PS5's sub-10k baseline will be coming soon.

pretty much, and the exact reason why the ps4 and the switch launched in Q4 (at least in japan for the latter). if you are planning to ramp up production slowly, why not?

and besides, console launch month is practically an extra holiday, especially useful to use in arguably the slowest months of the year normally. i suspect this is also the reason why capcom has come to launch MH in febuary-march these days.
