Did you really fall from this pure marketing phrase ?
Let's say you have 19 friends. Including you, you'll be 20 people. 2/3 of your friends bought an Xbox 360 and/or an Xbox One. So that's makes around 13 people who are existing Xbox players. You all buy Xbox Series X, cause you still want to have the full fat experience (or let's say half of you 13 bought a Series S, for that matter).
The remaining 7 people had either a PS4 or a Switch or neither of them. 4 of these friends buy a Series X, and the remaining 3 buy a Series S.
So overall, regarding MS's statement, 3 of 20 people bought a Series S, which is very low. But MS says that 40% of the new comers bought a Series S, which seems huge.
