Your idea is very similar to a fiscal year aligned chart, but without giving the console launching in the holiday those extra months. Not a bad idea, but I would suggest including those year 0, so to speak, to tell the whole story of wii.

Hi PDiddy, I haven't seen the fiscal year aligned chart but it sounds like it tries to accomplish the same thing.

I'm not really sure what you mean with the Year 0 of the Wii. My best guess is that you refer to the first November and December (2006). If that is the case, then those two months are what I have under year 1 month 11 and 12.

If you notice, Year 1 is the first time the console was out for each month, so what you see in Year 1 is January - October of 2007 and November and December 2006. Basically forming the first 12 months of release. This is done with all the consoles, so the Switch has March-December 2017 and Jan-Feb 2018 all under "year 1".

For me this seems to enable us to compare apples with apples. Obviously the launch month is a bit one sided, but the rest seem to be on equal terms. This "Month Aligned" Gap chart will match exactly with Trunks gap chart every 12 months.

I see what you mean now, thanks. My one issue with your method is that it pushes november and december one year back so the years are misaligned in that sense. The FY chart (or rather, a chart aligned at first FQ4), would solve this. This is a shipment chart, of the respective consoles, for example, using that method:
