Well it's not like they were making mods like making Princess Peach have giant breasts pop out of her shirt or Kirby piss blood everywhere, nor were they for profit.

They're still taking liberties with a company's intellectual property, specifically a conservative and protective company that is well known by now not to be tolerant of such things. 

The outcome should've been obvious, but now they're throwing a tantrum and being all negative and annoying on any social media discussion to do with Nintendo. I mean if they wanna have their hashtag campaign fine, but I've seen them insulting folks just for pointing out that ultimately Nintendo are within their rights.
