That is total overkill, especially since they have 2 AAA timed hats releasing in 2021 as well, plus several smaller AA and A exclusives. Better to delay God of War and possibly one other to 2022 imo, because they likely have very little from 1st party studios coming in 2022, especially their AAA 1st party studios. Naughty Dog just released TLOU 2, they probably won't release their next game until 2023-2024. Sucker Punch just released Ghost of Tsushima, they probably won't release their next game until 2024. The rumored new Uncharted at Sony San Diego only began development in 2019, with that team expanding slowly, so it might not release until 2023 or 2024. Maybe Bend can get Days Gone 2 out in 2022, but Sony's 2022 line-up would look much better with both Days Gone 2 and God of War 5. I see no good reason for Sony to have an overkill year in 2021, that would hurt them in mores ways than one; their exclusives would end up competing against one another for sales, and it would hurt their 2022 line-up. |
I appreciate that you have actually given this some thought. It's not a bad theory, originally you specified just GOW and HZD- I thought there was some reasoning behind those specific games together- but I have to agree it's likely either GOW, HZD or GT get delayed to early 2023.
My guess would be GOW. GG were able to get to terms with new tech very quickly (PS4) and launch KZ:SF and their team has since expanded. GOW games seem to typically launch in spring as well so I could see that being a March or April 2022 title.
As for 2022 in general- I think FF16, Possibly a Bend, Uncharted or From Software game. It may not need much padding.
