if the cable was of the wrong kind (doesn't contain a certain resistor) it could have allowed for more current than it should have. you can apparently fry the TV out chip (thats what happened with all those 3rd party TV out docks after an update that prob. allowed more power-draw)

So if TV out doesn't work but charging does you might have fried something. but ofc. try with another dock, they can prob as you said help you check in the shop where you got it. hope it works out!

Why would they allow the hardware to utilize higher yields than it can take? Seems like a bad idea. From what I understand, the Switch unit itself and the dock use/prefer different v/a, which is even more confusing since only one cable and adapter is packed with the kit.
