Everyone could do better. Doesn’t change they have better genre variety and their hands off approach is clearly a good strategy. |
It is interesting that the X1X had a lot more variety this ggen. It reminds me of Sony during the PS3 era where they made a lot of games (and varieties) to try and win back gamers. Arguably, Sony did a much better job of this in their time compared to MS with the X1X.
On a separate note, I do want to also point out that a hands-off approach ISN'T always the best thing and wouldnt always fit all devs. The key ia to have a balanced approach and guide as needed. Sony are generally known for being handsoff but there are a few instances where they have stood firm and forced devs to make changes with great results (two that come to mind are Sony pushing Naughty Dog to make the 1st Uncharted which they reportedly didn't want to do, as well as cancelling Sony Santa Monica's 1st game on the PS4 before they got on to GOW).
The point is that letting devs lead will frequently get you great results but sometimes it is beeter to step in and provide direction. We do not yet know how MS is doing in that regard as a lot of the devs they purchased recently have yet to release their games.
