Call it whatever you want. He wouldn't sign the NFL's liability waiver, which is standard for tryouts. No NFL team is going to pay your bills if you get injured while trying out for them. With regards to training with strangers, is it commonplace for a QB to bring his own receivers with him to tryout for teams? I'm pretty sure it's standard for the team you are trying out for to have that arranged on their end. And, trust the NFL to pass out tapes? There were going to be representatives from 25 teams present at the Atlanta tryout. Imagine having a job interview scheduled, calling your prospective employer and telling them to meet you 60 miles away from your scheduled interview location and then blaming someone else for not getting the job. Kaepernick's win loss record 2014-2016: 2014: 8-8 (lost 4 of last 5 games) Where's all the outrage for Jamarcus Russell not getting signed by any teams after the Raiders cut him? By the way, I'm not going to look up every QB you mentioned, but as a Steelers fan, I can tell you Devlin "Duck" Hodges was a 3rd string QB (now just on the practice squad) playing under a $142,800 contract. Would Kaepernick sign that contract with anyone? Doubt it. |
This is, I think, what's actually going on. The man can do math and realizes he can make a lot more money off the field by playing the millionaire victim than he could on the field. I think he could be a first string quarterback for a mid tier team, so what's that like $5-10 million a year?
Or he can sign deals with whoever he want he wants to (like Nike), go on paid speaking tours, travel all around the country as a liberal influencer (all of which may seem more fun to him than grinding football tactics 12 hours a day to make probably less money). The man is smart and is making some good money I suspect.
Meanwhile, the NFL is still struggling to find it's identity. Does it embrace the BLM movement, which probably the vast majority of its players support, or does it try to capture ratings by not alienating it's fanbase that built it up over the years. Why would Cap wanna deal with that hot mess when he has a lot more freedom, flexibility, and money making opportunities outside of football?
