Unless there is a study made about the effects of COVID-19 on the video game market, we really cannot conclude that the spike in sales of game consoles was due to the pandemic. This pandemic caused global economic slump which affected all countries in the world that eventually led to mass lay-off and unemployment, thereby affecting the purchasing power of the people. Affected people who are now cash-strapped would rather allot whatever money they have for necessities and monthly bills rather than luxuries such as game consoles.

However notice that the trend started as of Q4, which ends in March, the moment the outbreak started. Which means that it isn't just due to COVID, but it seems like the Switch is really breaking records in and of its own.
