Pleasure. While on that file, I noticed something wild. The Q1 of 2021 software (red line) is fiercly competing with the Q3 of 2020 (holiday period). Traditionally the spring/summer quarter (Q1) is always the weakest. What happened here due to the Corona virus is significantly helping drive Switch sales and invigorating its momentum. However notice that the trend started as of Q4, which ends in March, the moment the outbreak started. Which means that it isn't just due to COVID, but it seems like the Switch is really breaking records in and of its own. |
Unless there was a study made about the effects of COVID-19 on the video game market, we really cannot conclude that the spike in sales of game consoles was due to the pandemic. This pandemic caused global economic slump which affected all countries in the world that eventually led to mass lay-off and unemployment, thereby affecting the purchasing power of the people. Affected people who are now cash-strapped would rather allot whatever money they have for necessities and monthly bills rather than luxuries such as game consoles. Thus, I can also say that hardware and software sales would have been much higher if pandemic never happened
