A lot of the talk of sony being disappointed should probably wait til sales pour in.

Splatoon is just one of many examples of a game which which received a low 80s but outperformed everyones expectations because it resonates with its audience and makes the statement it was intended to make. Especially looking at review summaries, this game looks like it delivered on its promise and I feel people are underestimating the value of that.

I'm seeing words like generic and uninspired thrown about, which is ironic considering the core premise and what the game is being praised for is realising a Sumarai/Japanese/Feudal world like we've never seen before. Particularly because of this I struggle to see the core audience for this game being deterred by the fact it doesn't reinvent the open world formula. Was anyone expecting that from the previews? Meanwhile its social media tracking shows huge interest, so I'm very curious how this performs.
