This idea of a soft transition sounds fucking horrible to me, frankly. You'd get the worst of both worlds; Switch 1 would be robbed of its potential, and the new system won't be fully taken advantage of until years into its life.

Give me 5-7 years of proper support, then a hard reset and a new system with actual exclusives, thank you very much.

I get you are just making a point, but given your opinions on the Switch's output as of now, imagine the complaints we'd hear if Switch lasted a measly 5 years...

Honestly, it would depend on the content of those 5 years.

If it was replaced in 2022 but between now and then we get a ton of great games I actually wouldn't mind. I'd feel it was a tad premature from a business point of view but I wouldn't personally be upset or feel shortchanged.

Say the second half of this year picks up, next year is as strong as 2017/2019, and I all the games I want most arrive within Switch's lifespan and are as amazing as I hope, (BOTW2, Bayonetta 3, Metroid Prime 4...) I could accept a 5 year cycle.
