i still fail to see the relevance of comparing with the previous consoles, neither did i refer to their momentum as lower, just their sales.

momentum=/=sales even if closely related

It just shows that it wasn't a problem of momentum or tardiness to due the price cut. They had 5 years to "recover" momentum. Previous gen PS3 were able to accelerate from much lower and worse momentum.
