If it doesn't support it and you bought the X1 version, you don't get to play the best version on Series X, only the BC version. If you bought the game on Series X then you can't play it on X1 at all.

Them we will have problems because the way I saw on ad it was across the board, about everygame on X1 would work on XSX (few exceptions) and all games that had improved versions, patches, whatever would have smart delivery., so you wouldn't ever have to buy it more than once.

I don't know the ad but Microsoft didn't imply that when they announced it. Official blog post:

This technology is available for all developers and publishers, and they can choose to use it for titles that will be release on Xbox One first and come to the Xbox Series X later."

Madden NFL 21 will be on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X and while there is a free upgrade, it's only for a limited time, so it's not using Smart Delivery.

To me it's surprising that so many 3rd party devs chose to use it. With Cyberpunk, AC Valhalla, DiRT 5, Yakuza Like a Dragon and Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 we already have quite a few heavy hitters and there are still tons of unannounced games left.

Of course I knew the 1st party studios were using it but other than that I expected only a few indie titles.
