I've personally fixed drift issues on 3 of my joycons (I've also done a 4th fix but that was my fault for snapping the joystick). I do find it extremely annoying that they don't last longer but it's not a deal breaker for me. The controllers simply have limited lifespans - roughly 2 years in my experience. I do rotate my 2 joycon pairs but I do use my switch roughly 2 hours per day if not more so for some the drift issues may not appear for 3+ years.
If anyone else here grew up with the N64 controllers I feel it's a similar thing. Those analog sticks became useless after a while and you just had to sort it out by buying a new controller. At least with the switch we have the option of buying cheap 3rd party sticks online.
For people who don't know how to fix them I do feel bad for them - I bet a lot of unsuspecting parents will have bought full price replacements as they didn't know any better.
