You've got a point, but devs won't forget PS3 or XB1 for a long time. XBSX will give devs new hope and they will try to push it as much as reasonably possible due to MS's renewed efforts. They don't want SNY getting too full of themselves again. Just look at the cross play push for example. Now the pubs though, how much they can push the devs to favor one console over another is hard to say. They certainly will favor the one that sells the most games, but I don't think the devs will fall in line like they may have decades ago. They both should know better by now as to what happens when you decide to basically go all in on just one brand, and need to keep an open mind going forward.

The hardware hasn't been the most exciting really, yet interesting. Hopefully the big excitement now comes with the games and prices.

*XB1(S) is a lot like PS3. Both were the wrong moves at the wrong time, and maybe just flat out dumb altogether. PS3 Slim and XB1X though were redeeming.

I really don't get what people are thinking or expecting...

PS4 vs XB1
GPU: PS4 40% > XB1
Memory Bandwidth : PS4 250% > XB1 (lets even dropthat down to 150% due to the XB1's arbitrary ESRAM)
Resultant difference : PS4 1080p > XB1 900p (30% rez difference)

PS4pro vs XB1X
GPU : PS4pro 50% < XB1X
Memory bandwidth: PS4pro 50%< XB1X
Memory Quantity:PS4pro 50% < XB1X
Resultant Difference: (on average 30%-40% resolution difference in favor of XB1X)

PS5 vs XSX
GPU: PS5 18% < XSX
Memory Bandwidth: PS5 30% < XSX

And somehow... people are expecting there to be some sort of miracles being done here? Expecting anything more than a sub 20% difference in resolution as the only differentiating factor?

It's more than just the TF's and raw SSD speeds yup. Those are just what is hyped. What exactly can be done with all of it when each orchestra is ready to perform will be another thing. Practice makes perfect, not the instrument. Though a better instrument certainly helps, some more than others.
