I realize that. What about 75-100GB games though when your strapped for time? The experience will be much better if you run it off the SSD, yes. It will also be much better if you buy an XBSX. Is everyone expected to buy an XBSX, or is MS going to continue selling XB1's? My point isn't what's better, it's the options.

It also indirectly ties into MS and their proprietary SSD's, which I also mentioned. Can't run an inferior version of the game off the HDD because we don't want you to? Don't have time to wait for large game transfers? Guess you need to buy some of our (expensive) SSD's then.

Well they are going for the system recognizing what you have and giving the best version possible. So if they wanted they possibly could allow you to instead of run the code for XSX to run the X1X from HDD. For me that doesn't seem a good choice though.

You are just painting a strange scenario where someone is in a tremendous hush that he can't wait for the transfer to SDD but would be fine with several load screens =p

It's just something I noticed and are curious about. Wasn't sure if I missed some detail or if it's simply a choice MS has made that goes against options. I'm not saying it's a terrible decision that will sink them or anything like that, but I can't help but wonder if it has to do with their proprietary SSD's and having you buy some instead of a cheap large aftermarket HDD/SSD.

I don't think you get the point. Is BC easy between XB consoles? Is getting BC games to play off the HDD on the XBSX easy? Is getting next gen XB games to play on last gen hardware easy? Then why not make it so those next gen games, can be played off the HDD on XBSX to save time if you so choose?

I don't actually see why it technically couldn't anyway. If last gen games can be played off an HDD for XBSX, and next gen games will be playable on last gen hardware, why can't those same games play off the HDD on XBSX? Isn't Cyberpunk offering a free upgrade when you go from last gen to next gen?

>next gen games will be playable on last gen hardware

Next gen games aren't going to be playable on last gen hardware.

There are going to be a lot of cross gen titles for a while.  That doesn't mean they are running the exact same game.  That also doesn't mean that every next gen game will also be on Xbox One.

Technically some earlier games could be run from a HDD, but there are probably going to be games in the future that won't be able to run off a HDD.

Well Phil said all games work on all consoles for the first 2 years. I already asked the question of whether or not next gen games meant at launch or 2 years down the road.

If it means down the road when XB1 get's the boot, that's a simple answer that's much more legit.
