China isn't a trustworthy partner but with what Trump does, he is one of the reasons why it's easier for China to step in

Weird answer. Just imagine one possible situation: 

Trump would buy the possibly researched vaccine  away from Europe and China would help Europe with an own developed vaccine. Right now it looks as if China would do that (the reason is irrelevant to be honest).

Trump would do China a huge favour and even if China would do it only for themselves it would at least not look like USA is a better "friend".

When I look at the last years and see what Trump tries now I'm not really sure how at least he is supposed to be a better partner. USA with another President? Sure
