Sony and Microsoft have huge Warehouses around the globe, so they can store much more units in time of need or in preparation to something. Nintendo lacks that capacity, and thus runs short of supply faster than their competitors with equal amount of sales. The fact that storekeepers tend to order less units of Nintendo consoles (or did so in the past) at once compared to the competing consoles doesn't help matters either.
