It's a waste of electricity, I can be away for weeks at a time for rescue deployments, so everything gets switched off at the wall.

And the console was prone to redownloading entire games, rather than just patch data, plus there was the odd glitch here and there where games wouldn't boot requiring a hard reset anyway.

Doesn't mean that it needs to rebuild the game database every time the console gets switched on though.

Well I can understand why it would be a waste of electricity in your case.

I'm powering my Xbox several times a day. Watching the boot process every single time would drive me nuts. And then there are the giant updates which can take longer than a regular play session.

I was recently installing a game on my old Xbox One (which is set to energy saving mode) so I can double box boost it. Then realized that I can't turn it off since it wouldn't continue downloading. I could change the setting but I would need to undo that again later... and again every time after that.
End of story, I left it on just to download the game Now that felt like a waste of energy.
