it's a lot more likely the mild to asymptomatic cases of the diseases were missed/ not diagnosed. Last I heard "only" about 25% of the patients display serious symptoms.

Especially early on, when it wasn't known yet that there is a new disease and before the hospitals and doctors had been briefed on the new Coronavirus, many physicians certainly diagnosed just a pneumonia.

Also, how many are potentially sitting at home, hoping to get better by themselves instead of visiting a doctor for whatever reason? These could be hundreds, if not thousands by now.
