It's cheaper, but at the same time, it's also gimped.

Japan likes Handhelds because of the very mobile society, but also due to small housing units. Switch is a solution to both, allowing to play on the TV without needing much space and also on the go.

This, it's not that the Japanese don't play at home on the TV, rather that being restricted to only that limits their game time with such long work hours.

If they really only cared about handhelds, the Lite would comprise like 90% of Switch sales there.
