I've long thought that one of the biggest drivers of all the downplaying of and backlash to both Wii's and Switch's success came from the fact that after the failure of their predecessors, the folks who wanted Mario and Zelda to come to Playstation/Xbox got their hopes up that one more failure would lead Nintendo to go third party, and that the success of Wii and Switch dashed those hopes and frustrated their desires.
