But bring the Wii and DS into it? That's jumping the shark. No system will ever sell as much as those two combined. By that standard even the PS2 is a miserable failure.

The WiiU + 3DS argument is still nonsense because it goes by the notion that the two userbases are two fully separate ones when the is a good amount of overlap due to the dynamic of the market before the Switch. NS still is going to outdo both though so they have to move posts to an even more unrealistic target.

That why I said I understood the Wii U + 3DS argument, not that I agreed with it, since I don't, the above being one of the reasons.

It is predictable seeing the goalposts being shifted back though; once Switch outsells the Wii I bet the narrative will become "it has to pass the DS or it underperformed."
