Nintendo needs to do absolutely nothing regarding those consoles until 2022.

They don't need to but they absolutely should try and piss on their parade. Even if it's just making sure BoTW2 releases close to they release.

Wii did a much better job than WiiU at Nintendo's traditional role of snapping up the kids/young families. The spoilt brats guilt tripping their parents into buying them a $400-500 graphics upgrade next Christmas need to come up with some good reasons as to why a $199 console with Switch Sports isn't a better option to go alongside their PS4/XB1.
