It's possible, but it'd require a huge effort from MS to rehabilitate Xbox's image. At this point I think it's hard to say much about Scarlett when we know so little.

At any rate, by the time Switch is done, it should have brought Nintendo's hardware total comfortably over 800 million.

We know things curl, we do. I predicted that whatever console in gen 9 by Nintendo would take over, I did that about 5 years ago. And now I will predict that Scarlett will come out neck and neck with PS5 and here's why:

- They are gathering up a lot of internal studios right now and securing exclusives (even some they had loaned out to Nintendo!).

- Microsoft is learning from their mistakes of last gen and aiming to aggressively cater to gamers, following in Sony's lead.

- The scarlett will be a true generation above the Xbox1, making abundant and native use of ray tracing which will cause a true generational graphics gap with current consoles.

- Microsoft is getting ready to compete with the future of gaming: cloud gaming. Of course even if it is very early right now, gen 10 will be the start of cloud gaming which will eventually take over. Their presence in this area with Azure is bigger than what many of us think, because of Google's currently awkward entry. But things will evolve fast, Google is a quick learner, and a great money-maker. They will build the market in which Microsoft will be a competitor at the end of gen 10, into gen 11.

- The scarlett is scheduled to launch in November of 2020, before the PS5. Like the X360 told us in the past, this lead is crucial. Depending on how long that launch lead will be, and depending on the winning formula of the above points and overall recipe of Scarlett, the next gen will be highly competitive.

Do we know for sure Scarlett will beat PS5 to market? I thought both were only announced for "holiday 2020" so far.

At any rate, I do expect it will be a closer fight between Xbox and Playstation next gen than this gen, but we don't even know what Scarlett will actually be called, or what games it will have, or whether the marketing will be good, or how much it will cost, or whether it will be stronger or weaker than PS5, still too many unknowns for me personally at least to have a good feel for how it'll do.
