360 and PS3 were similar systems competing for the same demographics, Switch and PS5 will not be.

Just to drive this further home, Playstation plus Xbox sales per generation always hover around 175M total. Nintendo consoles however are completely detached from those sales and vary wildly. This is due to PS/XB gamers are very similar and play very similar games, hence they fill up the same niche.

The same can't be said with Nintendo consoles. They are bought with Nintendo games in mind and third party games as a "nice to have" bonus or afterthought. And with the Switch, you can also throw portability into the mix, since it doesn't really have any competition in that domain anymore.
