Well.. the Wii was a home console. And I believe it competed directly because it took away that casual crowd that typically flocked to PS consoles. I also believe that the 7th gen created (or emphasized) a clear distinction in gamers. I don't like using the phrase but let's call them hardcore and casuals (personally I would prefer traditional and non-traditional but don't want  be accused of making up any categories). One can argue that the same traditional gamer space is the exact same space the PS4/XB1 is still competing in today. Last gen that space accounted for about 160M in sales. So far this gen it's tracking for around 140M. Will probably closes this gen at around 160M/170M when its all said and done.

I concur... maybe this would just be better if we just changed it all to Nintendo vs Playstation v Xbox. And jus track total gaming devices sales from each platform for regardless of gen or form factor.

You do realize that Nintendo would win that, right?
