It's more that one of their teams had an idea for this, and Nintendo let them do it. Nintendo gives their teams a lot of creative freedom, so this isn't being made because they want to "relive the glory days". It's being made because the developers wanted to make it. That's how things like ARMS, Labo, and 1-2 Switch get created. They're made because the developers wanted to make them, not because of corporate mandates.
