The God commet aside, the "violent games = shooets" bull shit comes from politicians on every end of the political spectrum. Remember that California Dem Leland Lee? The TLDR is he railed against violent video games (especially GTA) only to be caught with accounts of bribery and GUN TRAFFICKING, you know, real world crimes. He is currently serving out his 5 year sentence in prison.

While the Video Game Violence rhetoric was bipartisan at one time, as information came in, democrats generally began to acknowledge that video games do not cause violence and move away from those talking points. The Atlantic just published a fairly interesting article about it: https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2019/08/video-game-violence-became-partisan-issue/595456/

Civil disobedience is more effective against our government than guns. If we all stopped working and crashed markets the government would care more than a few bullets.

People keep pointing to China but the recent protests in Hong Kong have actually been reasonably effective in bringing forth the will of the people. One of the biggest roadblocks was actually the individuals within the protest who chose to cross the line and resort to violence or other forms of illegal activity (such as destruction of property). It gave the government a means to propagandize the issue and push back against the protesters as just a violent mob.
