I'm still unclear as to why Switch sales rose this week when the week before was Mario Maker 2's release.

You get a 5000 yen eshop coupon with every purchase of a Switch. Thats carrying the hardware sales atm.

It's only 3000 Yen, not 5000. But you're right about it boosting the sales.

Didn't that promotion start the week before this though? Or is it just that it's been on for more days of this week than the previous?

It did start earlier, with the release of SMM2, but it's still ongoing.
