Yeah, i wouldn't call BotW on WiiU a sign of good faith, they would come off as enormous pricks if BotW was released exlusively on Switch.

Other companies in their position might have. But Nintendo did right by U owners by giving us what was promised, then delivering a far superior successor to the Wii U. That's how you show good faith to your customers; not by wasting resources to prop up a failed system long after it is dead and replaced, but by correcting your mistakes and making sure your next system is better.

Judging by the Switch's meteoric success, it would seem most consumers, including most Nintendo fans, are happy with how things went.
