Yea, I do not really see how the PS5 will immediately impact the Switch. Like previous generations, the PS5 will not immediately get nothing but big games off the bat. It will take some time before developers eventually get a hang of what the system has in store. The PS4 has enjoyed the last few years of great exclusives and third party content, which it did not necessarily had in the beginning. It would be tough to argue that early games on PS4, like Assassin's Creed Unity, The Order: 1886, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Watch Dogs, and Evolve, are comparable to recent games like Horizon: Zero Dawn, Persona 5, Sekiro, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Resident Evil 7, God of War, Spiderman, and Monster Hunter World in not just performance, but also in critical success as well. And as you said, consumers buy consoles for different reasons. The Switch has more than enough reasons to entice a purchase for a consumer. Whether it be home console on the go, incredible current and upcoming games from Nintendo and Co., the ability to play local co-op with the Joy Cons, and maybe knowing that your friends and family are just as interested in the Switch as you are. |
I think the last two years have proven there is room for both Switch and Playstation to thrive in coexistence.
PS5 is almost certain to inherit the same niche as the PS4, so it won't endanger the Switch any more than a new species of lion arriving on the savanna would endanger the vultures.
