Here are the current numbers, WW, from last generation (approx):
PS2: 119 m Market Share: 72%
XB: 24 m Market Share: 15%
GC: 21 m Market Share: 13%
Current numbers from current generation (approx):
PS3: 14 m Market Share: 28%
360: 19 m Market Share: 38%
Wii: 28 m Market Share: 56%
Yes, there are rounding errors, but look at the percentages. Sony went from having 72% to having 28% on their current-gen console. Nintendo went from 13% to 56%. And MS went from 15% to 38%. The numbers will shift over time, but there just isn't reasonable math available to suggest the PS3 will come anywhere close to having 70% market share, and MS has more than doubled their market share, and by Christmas will likely have surpassed the LTD sales of the original Xbox.
This has to be considered a big win for MS and Nintendo, although I would not suggest that Sony has "lost" this generation... they've just fallen from a very high perch.
EDIT: corrected the PS3 percentage.
