Gamefreak has always been a handheld developer, and even then they never pushed the hardware of the Gameboy, GBA, DS, or 3DS. This is the first brand-new game they've ever made for an HD system. Textures and shaders are clearly sub-par compared to other developers. Models remain too basic, but with over 800 Pokemon that's very understandable. But the environments actually look very good with the art and vibrant colors. It's a mixed bag, but considering the developer is known for making games that are low-end technically even on systems that only do 240P it's a good start visually.
