PS3's struggles were the result of its own excessive price, initially weak software, and bad PR.

PS5 will not be affected by the Switch because people buy them for totally different reasons.  The people buying PS4s, which is primarily those who want mainstream AAA games, will never be satisfied with a Switch, so it will not draw them away.

Sony made bad decisions with the PS3, and therefore it lost to the competition.  Customers chose a different console, because the PS3 was not a good choice.  Sales of one console go up while another go down.  That is competition.

We were debating PS5 vs. Switch competition (or lack thereof).  But the bigger question is if you think the PS3 was competing with the Wii.  I definitely think the PS3 competed with the Wii.  Some of those PS2 customers bought a Wii instead of a PS3 (and some bought a XBox360). The Wii impacted the sales of the PS3.  That is how competition works.

We've gone way off topic now. This thread is about Xbox One sales, not competition between Wii/PS3 or Switch/PS4.
