I don't really have a main, its too early for me to tell yet but I have got a fairly large pool of characters I play more often. I haven't played a fighting game outside Smash where I really enjoy so many of the fighters. If I had to pick it'd be between Cloud, Yoshi and Bowser I think. I occasionally go random on characters since I probably enjoy at least 80% of the roster and it'll force me to play the few that I will generally ignore, both those that I like and those I don't like yet.
As for rulesets, I turn off all items except food (I generally dislike items but food is so unintrusive that it won't shift a match in an instant but gives a small reward if you have a second to spare), I usually do time matches lasting about 8 minutes instead of stock and spirits off. No FS meter and usually stages are random with or without hazards but not usually Final Destination or Battlefield variants. There are a few stages I'd prefer not to play (75M) but if they appear I just go with it since part of the fun for me is learning how to adapt to fighting in different stages.
