Wow...kudos for you for going back to the original and really appreciating it. Many people just find it too frustrating. That game was so amazing to me as a kid. Zelda and Super Mario were pretty awesome as well, but Metroid just hit tone and terror so well for me unlike any game even since then. While I do think Super Metroid fixes some of the issues with the farming that you mentioned, there's no denying that an entire genre was created with this title and it deserves heaps of kudos. Good luck on the rest of your journey. You're in the god-like stage of Samus' journey and it really does make the whole game so much easier to play and enjoy at that point. There will be Metroids...
