They use trophies to extrapolate the amount of players.
It was always known how rare a certain trophy is. Therefore you could always tell that, for example, 1% won a certain trophy but you never knew just how many people won it, so you could never extrapolate to 100%. Now they seem to be giving out a few numbers.
