The Game Awards 2018 is this week, and since the show started in 2014, Nintendo has made an appearance at the show in some fashion. Showing the first gameplay for what would eventually become The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild alongside the release date and trailer for Codename STEAM in 2014. Honoring the late Satoru Iwata and showing some new Mario Maker costumes in 2015, Showing a new trailer for BotW in 2016, and revealing Bayonetta 1+2 ports with Bayo 3 in development, as well as surprise dropping the last BotW DLC at last year's show (as well as accepting BotW's GOTY win).

Things are looking no different this year. Multiple sources are hinting that the first gameplay/footage of Metroid Prime 4 will be shown at this year's event. But Nintendo rarely shows up with just one announcement. So what if they do something a bit different this year. Aside from the inevitable Prime 4, what if Nintendo also shows off something so bonkers, so unexpected, and so completely out-of-nowhere that nobody saw it coming? Mainly a weird new IP, or something equally insane. Nintendo's announcements at the Game Awards are typically safe fare, showing games that they know the audience for the show wants to see like Bayonetta and Zelda. But what if they reveal something the crowd did not expect or didn't even know they wanted. Personally, I want to see Nintendo do something like that, if only for a change of pace from what are usually, very predictable announcements at the show. I want to see some wacky, left-field reveal like ARMS was.
