I missed out on this gens release so I wasn't aware about their initial plans for the console. I just remember there being backlash from the community over pricing and having to play online 24 hours. I thought the disc less drive was just a rumor back then too.

I put the word "legitimate" in quotes as to say MS doesn't have a traditional first party studio like Nintendo and Sony in the regards of developers who are also part of the console team. From what I gather, even still their first party devs pale in comparison to Sony's first party devs and are nothing in comparison to Nintendo's first party in traditional sense.

As for the rest of it, I can honestly say I wouldn't know much about what the One can do. My original XBO was stolen and I never had the chance to play my S online. I just recently bought an X but haven't even gotten to the interface because I don't have an isp.

You are correct, it was just a rumour back than, much like its a rumour now however its clear MS has been focusing more on building there online devision. Thats what the DRM and X1 anti consumer features were for.

As for MS's 1st party companies failing in comparison.. well i have to disagree. In what way exactly? Each company has there strenghts and weaknesses. Xboxs top tier devs are just as good as any. But if you are comparing Compulsion Games with Naughty Dog sure, a small to mid tier dev would fall short. but lets not forget 343, Turn10, Playground Games, The Coalition and soon to join in on the party with The Initiative. All top tier devs best in class with what they actually make.

Xbox has the better focus on FPS, Racing and Multiplayer games, thats there strenght, where Nintendo has the Platforming, Adventure and Fighting market and Sony have the Single player mature games and best 3rd person games.

That last part falls entirely under your preference.
